Rosanne Stower will present on Birthing of New Life: a Work in Progress.
This Reflection Day is based on Rosie’s 10000 word essay which was entitled: “Spiritual Director as Midwife: Nurturer of New Life”. Rosie reflects on the distinct stages in the birthing of new life: conception, pregnancy, labour, delivery & infancy. Rosie says this is a recurrent theme in the journey of any committed directee. Rosie was inspired to approach Spiritual direction in this way after reading Margaret Guenther’s book: “Holy Listening”.
There will be opportunity during the day to reflect on the stages in relation to Lent & one’s own journey.
Rosie is an ordained deacon of the Anglican Church & works part-time as a Child Health Nurse in the community. Rosie graduated from the Spiritual Direction Programme in 2011.

Patrick Oliver will present on “Ten Bridesmaids, tinpot gods and the Gaze”- tips for spiritual direction.
Although people can be well educated in faith, doctrine and the scriptures, it is interesting that in times of stress or difficulty, they often can unconsciously resort to images of God that they thought they had grown through or left behind many years before. It is important in direction to help them to recognize when this is happening, and to hear what the desire behind the God-image is trying to let them know. Patrick will use a different take on the Parable of the Bridesmaids in order to explore this area of God images.
Patrick works full-time in companioning others in spiritual direction and conducts retreats and workshops.
